How To Prepare For Your in-home consult| Chattanooga Lactation

Here’s what you can do to prepare for your in-home visit with the lactation consultant:

Chattanooga Lactation Consultant providing expert breastfeeding support from the comfort of your own home, office, or Telehealth.
  1. Please do your best to fill out your medical chart in the Parent Portal that is sent to you via email by Milk Notes. You can use a mobile phone but many report it easier on a laptop or computer. This helps gives you personalized care specific to your unique needs. Please make sure you put the reason for your consult under “parent concerns” Can watch YouTube video on How To Complete Intake:
  2. Write down any questions you want to have answered.
  3. Have everything ready for feeding that you are currently using and within reach. This may include a nursing pillow, blankets, burp clothes, pump, bottles, formula, haakaa, nipple shields, nipple creams, etc.
  4. Try to feed your baby 2 hours before the scheduled consult. Wake your baby up 1.5-2 hrs before appointment time to feed. If your baby wakes up crying before I get to your house, please let me know. You can give your baby a “snack” to settle until I get there.
  5. Have a 24 hour log ready to show how often your baby has been feeding, stooling, and voiding.
  6. Have your baby’s weight history available to create a timeline.
  7. Have your breast pump clean and ready for use if you are also requesting assistance with pumping or a flange fitting. (*depending on time).
  8. I will need a hard level surface to put my infant weight scale on for the weighted feeding.
  9. We will feed/nurse the baby where you feel most comfortable.
  10. Rest, relax, and keep your Pj’s on. Please don’t clean your house. I am here for you and your baby not your home.

  12. Cancelation policy: If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment and cancel within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment time, you will be charged a fee of $50.00. Ashley Lucas, RN, IBCLC schedules only one client per appointment time. Cancelled appointments are not only frustrating but also for other clients in need of our services.   • You may email or use secure messaging within your Parent Portal to communicate after our visit. Prefer texting for emergencies, if possible. I will get back to you as soon as possible. I will do my best to get back with you within 12 hrs or sooner.
  • Check your junk mail folder if you don’t see my care plans.
  • You can view your care plan in the Parent Portal within 24 hrs or less after the visit.
