Policy: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Chattanooga Lactation is dedicated to delivering exceptional care and attention to each family we support. In order to uphold the highest standards of service, we have established the following cancellation and rescheduling policy.

I want to make sure every family and baby gets the time they deserve. Please call me if you’re going to be late and if you’re more than 15 minutes late, we may need to reschedule.

Because I have set an hour aside for you, if you’re a no-show or cancel the day of, you will be charged $100 unless it is a valid emergency.

Please give at least 24-hour notice to change or cancel appointments.

We reserve your appointment time specifically for you and turn away other families to honor our commitment to your care. Adhering to this policy is crucial in allowing us to provide timely and efficient service to all our families.

Thank you for understanding and respecting our policy. Your cooperation helps us continue to provide high-quality care to all the families we serve at Chattanooga Lactation.

How do I prepare for a home visit?

Home visits are an additional *$50 to cover travel time with those with insurance coverage.

  • Ensure your baby will be ready to nurse within a few minutes of your appointment time. You may need to give your baby a small feeding an hour or so before your scheduled appointment to curb your baby’s appetite but not fill him up.
  • Have your phone nearby in case your lactation consultant needs assistance finding your house or getting in the gate.
  • Rest and relax! Your lactation consultant is not concerned with how neat and organized your house is, so PLEASE do not clean or tidy up just for her. You just had a baby! No need to “excuse the mess.”
  • Ask your partner or another family member to look after older children or pets so you can focus your attention on the baby and breastfeeding during the visit.
  • Have a log ready to show your lactation consultant how often your baby has been feeding and stooling/urinating.
  • Have your baby’s weight history available including birth weight, discharge weight, and most recent weight.
  • Have your breast pump clean and ready for use if you are also requesting assistance with pumping or a flange fitting.

How can I reach you?

I’m a Text or a phone call away for your questions and concerns during this special time from 8 am — 8 pm EST . The number used for this communication is 423-225-6867. Texting is preferred if you have a quick question. I will get back to you as soon as I am able. If you are already a client. You can message 24/7 within the portal.

Can I bring other kids to our appointment?

To ensure we get the best use of our time together, I ask that you don’t have other children at these visits. It truly can be a distraction and interfere with the quality time spent on reaching your nursing goals.

What is an IBCLC?

An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. IBCLC's are healthcare professionals that specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. They have extensive education in human lactation, clinical requirements as well as passing a rigorous board certification exam. They must recertify every 5 years. For more information about IBCLCs and their role see the International Lactation Consultant Association.

Is that the same as a lactation consultant?

All those letters can be confusing! What is the difference between them? IBCLCs are board certified lactation consultants, which is the highest certification available for breastfeeding. This is a detailed list of the different types of breastfeeding support that are available to parents.

Can I buy a gift card for a friend/family member?

Payment Policy

Payment Policy

Self-pay (out-of-network) clients:

I will provide you with a superbill suitable for you to submit to your insurance. The superbill (which will also serve as a payment receipt) will be coded appropriately to the level of service provided during the visit. You agree to pay me at the time of the visit (cash, check, credit card, or FSA).

If you use SquareUp: Payments may be made electronically using a credit card or fund transfer.  I use SquareUp to process payments. SquareUp meets the high standards of HIPAA and the banking industry for security and privacy with regard to financial transactions.  However, SquareUp may send, automatically or per your request, email or text message receipts that reveal personal health information such as the date and type of lactation visit.   If you are not comfortable with this, payment may be made via cash.

(in-network) clients: Claims for my care will be submitted directly to United Health Care, or Aetna. Chattanooga Lactation will appeal all cost-sharing under the Affordable Care Act which states that lactation services are preventive and not subject to cost-sharing. If my insurance provider applies any portion to deductible or coinsurance and appeal attempts are unsuccessful, my credit card on file will be charged. If that charge is unsuccessful for any reason, I will be invoiced and I agree to pay within 7 days for all applied charges for all visits.

Chattanooga Lactation will submit a claim on behalf of myself and my babies. If any portion of either claim is applied to cost-sharing, I understand that I am required by law to pay cost-sharing to Ashley Lucas, RN, IBCLC. My credit card will be charged upon receipt of the Estimation of Benefits (EOB) by Chattanooga Lactation. Every effort will be made to have my insurance recognize these claims as preventive and not subject to cost-sharing, and an appeal will be initiated. If successful, I will be refunded any amount that Chattanooga Lactation recovers from my insurer.

If one of us (me or my baby) is on different insurance and therefore out-of-network for Chattanooga Lactation, I agree to pay $200 for initial visit and Follow-ups $150-$175 per visit. I will receive a superbill for this amount and can submit for out-of-network insurance.

If I have different primary insurance that is out-of-network for Chattanooga Lactation, I understand that I must pay the full self-pay fee up front as a deposit. I will not be refunded for any amount either insurance applies to cost-sharing. I will only be refunded if and when Chattanooga Lactation receives payment directly from either insurance, and only for the specific amounts paid by my insurance(s). Chattanooga Lactation may keep any amount paid by my insurance(s) over and above the deposit I paid.

Chattanooga Lactation is providing care to me and to my baby or babies; together we are all the client of Chattanooga Lactation.

My initial visit includes 1 week of follow up support by secure messaging, email, or text. Continued support is available for a weekly fee of $50. These fees are elective and not eligible for insurance reimbursement.

If my location has a travel fee applied, I understand that this is not eligible for insurance reimbursement.

I am responsible to verify my own lactation benefits. Chattanooga Lactation can only see that I have benefits, they cannot see if I have any special circumstances that might prevent my insurance provider from covering services. If my plan denies coverage of lactation services after the claims have been submitted, I am responsible to pay at the self-pay rate. I understand I should refer to my plan benefits and call my insurance directly to verify lactation coverage.

Chattanooga Lactation may communicate with my insurance company in reference to the services provided to me and my baby or babies.  Chattanooga Lactation may communicate with my credit card company or bank for any payment related matters.  It is my responsibility to provide accurate and current payment and insurance information. I will update my credit card information as needed and am responsible for any costs and fees associated with my failure to provide updated information.

These policies apply to Chattanooga Lactation and its representatives.

Cancellation policy: I understand that I am responsible for all charges associated with this visit. If I cancel with less than 24 hours notice, my credit card on file will be charged $100. If no-show or last minute cancel than the full amount for the type of consult you signed up for.
